John Paul “Pete” Burnette

John Paul "Pete" Burnette, Jr., 90, formerly of Rocky Mount, NC died Sunday, January 09, 2011 at Springmoor Retirement Village of Raleigh, NC. The son of the late John Paul Burnette, Sr. and the late Florida K. Burnette, he was born in Whitakers, NC on December 25, 1920. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Walter Scott Burnette. Pete attended Davidson College and UNC-Chapel Hill where he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1943. He practiced pharmacy for over 40 years, most prominently known for his 30 plus years as the owner of Sunset Pharmacy in Rocky Mount. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing, and gardening. Pete is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edna Singletary Burnette; his sons, John P. Burnette III and wife Pamela of Corpus Christie, TX, and son, G. Andrew Burnette and wife Diane of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Christopher Brian Burnette, Elizabeth Blair Burnette and Thomas Andrew Burnette; two great-grandsons, Casey and Kevin Burnette; and cousins, Coefield and Sally Knight. He will be greatly missed by all his family and will forever be in our hearts and remembered for his kind, gentle nature, and keen sense of humor. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be held from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 100 S.
