John Colon Daughtridge

ROCKY MOUNT - John Colon Daughtridge, 87, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010 at Autumn Care Nursing Facility. He was born December 4, 1922 in Rocky Mount, son of John Levy Daughtridge and Mary Jane Joyner Daughtridge. John graduated from Coopers High School and graduated from N.C. State University in 1947 with a BS degree in Agriculture Engineering. John served his country in the Army from October 1942 until May 1944. An active member of Morton Presbyterian Church, he served as elder and church treasurer and also designed the church sanctuary. He also was a charter member of Coopers Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice Berry Daughtridge; daughter, Betty D. Jorgenson (Mark), and son Douglas Victor Daughtridge (Angela); grandchildren, Allison West, Daniel Daughtridge, Erick Jorgenson, and Brett Jorgenson; nieces, Rose Burnett, Kim Waters, Myrtle Talton. He was preceded in death byhis siblings, William C. Daughtridge and Elsie Daughtridge Weaver. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation with family and friends will be 12:30-2:00 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
