John Arthur Shearin

ROCKY MOUNT - John Arthur Shearin, age 86, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Born in Halifax County, NC on June 5, 1935, he was the son of the late Jasper Shearin and Betty Harper Shearin. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie P. Shearin; his sisters, Lois S. Joyner and Gladys M. Shearin; and his son-in-law, Jerry Malpass. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise D. Shearin; his son, Terry J. Shearin of Kinston; his daughters, L. Ann Coley (James) of Rocky Mount and Phyllis Malpass of Rocky Mount; his granddaughter, Heather Michaelson (John) and their children, John "J.J." Michaelson, Jr., James Michaelson, and Jonas Michaelson; his grandson, Travis Coley (Jennifer) and their children, Blake McRoy, Aaron Coley, and Noah Coley; his daughter-in-law, Charlotte Shearin; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service to celebrate John's life will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum with Pastor Stanley Gaskins officiating. The family will be available to receive friends and relatives immediately following the service in the Chapel Mausoleum.
