Janet Claypoole Duke

BRIDGETON – Janet Claypoole Duke, age 72, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023. Born in Allegheny County, PA on March 28, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Frank Harvey Claypoole, Sr. and Agnes Scott Claypoole Slizewski. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Kevin Claypoole and Gary “Pete” Claypoole. Janet had a long and fulfilling career at Carolina Telephone Company, serving for 43 years. She began her journey as an operator and worked her way up to the position of a network engineer. Janet's love for water was evident throughout her life. She cherished moments spent at Kerr Lake and the Neuse River, where countless memories were created. Whether it was kayaking or riding jet skis, Janet embraced every opportunity to make the most of her time near the water. Janet’s affection for her family knew no bounds. One of Janet's most treasured relationships was with her grandson, Drew. Her family and friends shared a special bond and enjoyed activities at Kerr Lake being together, creating unforgettable memories. Janet is survived by her son, David Duke of Rocky Mount; her daughter, Brandy Duke of Raleigh; her grandson, Andrew “Drew” Davis Duke; her step-grandson, Dylan Sauls and wife, Lyndsey; her brother, Frank “Frankie” Harvey Claypoole, Jr.; her sisters, Sherry Williams and Debbie Marlow; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Janet’s life will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Carlton Cockrell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome.   1. Janet was a great mentor and friend. She trained me in many different areas when we worked together at sprint. We became friends & I spent many hours with her at the lake & also in Bridgeton when she moved. My prayers go out to Brandy, David & all the family. God has added another angel to his flock & another star to light our path in the night sky.
