Jane Winslow Abbott

ROCKY MOUNT - Jane Winslow Abbott, age 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Born in Perquimans County, NC on September 27, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Luther Winslow and Margaret Boyce Winslow. She was also preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Gordon Keith Abbott, Sr. and Christine E. Abbott; sister and brother-in-law, Mariam Abbott Tharrington and Dan Tharrington; and nephew, Thomas York "Ty" Tharrington. Jane grew up on a farm in Perquimans County. She was a school teacher with the Nash Rocky Mount School System for 34 years. Jane was a longtime member of Lakeside Baptist Church. She loved gardening and her green thumb showed as she always had beautiful rose bushes and blueberry bushes in her yard. Jane took great enjoyment spending time at the beach with family, attending the Beach Music Festivals and fishing, simply being outdoors. She also enjoyed Lake Gaston, being out on the boat, fishing and riding on the golf cart with her grand dog's. Jane attended many baseball games and the memories are plentiful and cherished. Above all, her most cherished memories will be those spent with her family, especially the dance recitals with her granddaughters. Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. Jane leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband of 58 years, Gordon "Keith" Abbott, Jr. of Rocky Mount; son, Christopher K. Abbott and wife, Caroline, of Fuquay-Varina; and daughter, Tonya Jane Abbott, of Cary. She is also survived by grandchildren, Breanne Abbott and Grace Abbott; sister, Rachel Winslow Lamm and husband, Dwight, of Nashville; niece, Virginia "Lee" Tharrington; and nephews, Danny Tharrington, Scott Tharrington, and Patrick Lamm. A Celebration of Jane's Life will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Dr. Jody Wright officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
