James Leon Carlisle

James "Leon" Carlisle, age 72, passed away Sunday, October 03, 2011. Born in Halifax County on September 30, 1939, he is the son of the late Jack Roosevelt Carlisle and Annie Mae Herbert Carlisle. Leon was an avid sportsman and member of the Roanoke Tar River Gun Club (Big Field). A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Harrell Carlisle; two daughters, Elizabeth Anne Schandlbauer and husband Nick of Washington DC and Lou Ellen Stroud and husband Jeff of Rocky Mount; son, James "Jackie" Leon Carlisle Jr. of Laguna Beach CA; and grandchildren, Alex and Ava Schandlbauer, and Wesley and Nora Stroud. The family will receive friends and relatives 7:00pm to 8:30pm Thursday, October 06, 2011 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. A graveside service to remember Leon will be held at 2:00pm Friday, October 07, 2011 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Phyllis Jacobs and Parker Philips officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Roanoke Tar River Gun Club, P.O. Box 751, Battleboro NC 27809 or a charity of your choice.
