ROCKY MOUNT – James Arthur “Jimmy” Wiliams, age 88, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Born in Nash County, NC on September 25, 1934, he was the son of the late William Darrell Williams and Lucy Florence Anderson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Eulene Williams; his brother, William Darrell Williams, Jr.
Jimmy was a man of great faith and served as a past Deacon at his lifelong church, Gethsemane Baptist Church in Whitakers. He was a strong believer in his Christian faith and instilled his faith in God in the lives of his family and of those around him. Jimmy was a dedicated member of the Whitakers Lions Club for fifty-one years of service. He was a proud retired fireman from the Whitakers Vol Fire Dept. Jimmy was also the owner/operator of Whitakers Food Center. He truly had a servant’s heart and will be forever missed and never forgotten.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Jamie Ethridge and her fiancé, Ken Oliver of Battleboro; his son, Jim Williams and his wife, Wendy of Wilmington; his beloved grandson, Hudson; his niece, Ann Adams; nephew, Darrell Williams and his wife, Barbara Jo “B.J.” and his loyal Fur Baby Layla.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Dennis Gregory and Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
