J. Harold Crumpler, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015. He was born on April 14, 1928, and raised in Nash County, the son of the late Jutsion Crumpler and Myrtie Moss Crumpler, and husband of the late Lottie Proctor Crumpler. He was also preceded in death by his son, Joe Crumpler; a sister, Alice "Doodle" Crumpler; and two brothers, Watson Crumpler and Warren Crumpler.
A World War II Veteran, Harold enlisted in the United States Navy with the blessing of his mother at the age of 17 years. He served on the USS Lexington and the USS Antietam.
He is survived by a son, Jutison Crumpler and his wife Edith of Elm City; two daughters, Wanda Denton and her husband Bobby Wyrick of Greenville, and Dale Crumpler Leemhuis and her husband Michael of Key Largo, FL; a brother, Tommie Crumpler and his wife Susan of Spring Hope; and a special friend Rochelle Williams. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brian Crumpler (Michelle), Michael Crumpler, Brenda Flora (Patrick), Joey Crumpler (Kimberly), David Crumpler (Lorie), James Crumpler (Cindy), Jeffery Denton (Mary), Jason Denton (Karina), Matthew Leemhuis and Joshua Leemhuis; and his great-grandchildren, Cameron, Christie, Jacob and Julie Anne.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 1:00pm at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC, with Rev. Jimmy Carpenter officiating.
