ROCKY MOUNT, NC. - Irene Garrity Marushia, 76, loving widow of Paul B. Marushia (d. 2001), went to her eternal rest on Nov 6, 2010. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Thomas E. and Mary Donnelly Garrity, and her brother, Thomas G. Garrity. She is survived by her sisters, Ethel Lynch of Syosset NY, Dorothy Young of Mount Joy PA, and Marjorie Deacon of Bethlehem, GA. and her children, Michael T. Marushia Sr., of Virginia Beach, VA, Paula Marushia Raynard of Rocky Mount NC, Joseph L. Marushia and Jonathan R. Marushia, both of Portsmouth VA, their spouses, 14 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Irene was a 1952 graduate of Freeport (NY) High School, and was married to Paul on June 26th, 1953. Having relocated from New York to Portsmouth VA in 1967, she was a long-time member of the Church of St. Therese, where she served as a church secretary, member of the choir, and was very active in other church activities until she relocated to Rocky Mount NC in 2009. She is loved and missed by many. A memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Church of St Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd, Chesapeake VA, on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to Catholic Family Services in her remembrance.
