Hoy “Jeff” Jefferson Cobb

Hoy "Jeff" Jefferson Cobb, age 75, died on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Born in Nash County, on January 9, 1939, he was the son of the late Hoy Jefferson Cobb, Sr. and Anne Andersen Cobb. He was predeceased by his son, Hoy Jefferson Cobb, III. Cobb was a lifelong resident of the Benvenue community. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 75 years serving many times on the church council and, in more recent years, in a behind the scenes role. Educated in the Nash County Schools, he attended East Carolina University for his undergraduate degree and then Masters. He taught in the Rocky Mount City Schools and was assistant principal at RMSH. He left to become the lead administrator in establishing the Area L AHEC Center in Rocky Mount. Cobb later became involved with family business interests in Cobb's Motel & Restaurant and then various real estate rental properties for most of his adult life. Jeff was active in local community and government having served on the Nash County Board of Education, a County Commissioner, and the Board of Directors for Nash General Hospital. As a Trustee of the Rocky Mount Elks, he was recently granted a Life Membership after 40 years of loyal service which included having been a Lecturing Knight, Esteemed Leading Knight, and Exalted Ruler. Jeff loved historical reading, talking politics and business, music, travel, supporting the Pirates, and just being out and about. He lived and enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed by his family, church, and many friends. He leaves to his memory, one daughter, Stephanie Cobb McBride of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by one brother, W. Richard Cobb, Sr. and his wife, Sandra of Rocky Mount, NC; one nephew, Richard Cobb, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Rocky Mount, NC; great-nephews Andersen Cobb and Reynolds Cobb and one great-niece, Catherine Cobb. A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rocky Mount NC with Reverend Alice Curl officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 433 S. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. I remember him as one of our Council men at Trinity Lutheran Church back when it was on Cokey Road and Tarboro Street. I played with his daughter Stephanie. Him and his wife were friends with my parents and grandparents
