Howard Vann Boone, Sr. died Thursday, July 22, 2010. He was born on October 15, 1925 to Ted and Beulah Johnson Boone at White Oak in Nash County, North Carolina, a place he cherished and where he always wanted to return.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Elwood Boone, his sister, Barbara Early and great-grand daughter, Anna Riley Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nora Price Boone, sisters Pat Judge of Rocky Mount and Peggy Whittingham of California, his children, Howard Boone, Jr. of the home, Linda Davis (Dan) of Rocky Mount, Charles Boone (Ruth), of Zebulon and six grandchildren, Boone Davis (Megan), Andy Davis, Cindy Ponte, Adam Davis (Kristen), J.T. Boone, and David Fowler. He is also survived by six great-grand children, Elli and Mac Woodward, Owen Davis, Sadie Ponte, Tristan Davis and Oz Fowler. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a special friend and caregiver Nedrick Dickens.
Howard was a United States Navy veteran serving in the Pacific during World War II. Howard was a long-time member of Lakeside Baptist Church, serving as Nursery Coordinator for many years. He was a 38 year employee of Carolina Telephone, retiring in 1985. He was also a former member of the Elks Lodge and served on the Rocky Mount Planning Board.
Howard was an active man, like his mother, always on the go. He always had a project in the works either for himself or someone else. He loved his little place at Lake Gaston, especially when he could spend the day on the lake with his grandchildren. Those who knew him also appreciated his quick wit and dry humor.
A memorial service will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church on Sunday, July 25 at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Jody Wright officiating. A time to greet the family will follow the service at the church.
Memorial gifts may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, 1501 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or to the Parkinson Research Foundation, PO Box 20256, Sarasota, FL 34276.
Howard's family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Nash and the staff of Nash Rehabilitation and Nursing Center who cared for him so lovingly during his illness.

I met Mr Boone only once but I will remember his wit. His family is what they are from his wisdom, leadership and humor. I know his freinds and family loved him and will remember him with fondest always.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Boone, but I did know his son Charlie. My deepest sympathy to the Boone family in the loss of your loved one. May your memories be your comfort in the coming days…
