Howard Croom Sonny Pigford

ROCKY MOUNT - Howard Croom “Sonny” Pigford, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. He was born in Edgecombe County on February 20, 1930, he was the son of the late Levi King Pigford and Annie Estelle Croom Pigford. He was preceded in death by his sister Lestevia Pigford Smith and a nephew Stephen Lee Pitt. Sonny graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1948. He worked for many years with CXS Railroad as a switchman until his retirement in 1995. Sonny had numerous hobbies, including woodworking, gardening, traveling, camping, and especially fishing. He had an infectious laughter, a smile that could brighten a whole room, jokes that could make you laugh till you cried and a heart full of love and kindness. He leaves to cherish his memory his sweetheart of over 30 years, Evelyn Starling Trevathan, his loving and devoted caregivers, Kim Trevathan Turner, Grover “Shorty” Trevathan and Kelsey Lee Turner. He leaves his loving sister, Anne P. Mena and husband, Bob; daughters, Cathy Sullivan Daniels and husband Bryan, Stephanie P. Caldwell and husband Tom, and Merry Angela Gallo and husband Christopher; grandchildren, Natalie, Jonathan, Jason, Leigh and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Avery and Greyson; nieces, Eleanor Smith and fiance Alfred, Annie Smith, Meta Wells and husband Ricky, Marie Gray, Linda Goins and Sandy Keaser; nephew, Thomas Smith and wife Judy, numerous great nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services. A Reception will follow at the Golden Living Center, 1000 Western Blvd, Tarboro following the committal.
