ROCKY MOUNT – Herman Harold “Hal” Fryar, Jr., age 77, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Born in Wilson County, NC on January 31, 1949, he was the son of the late Herman Harold Fryar, Sr. and Loleader Bulluck Fryar. He was also preceded in death by son, Walter Bryan Jeffreys.
Hal lived a life marked by faith, service, and generosity. An Eagle Scout, he carried its values of character and service throughout his life. During his distinguished 57-year career in real estate, Hal served as an owner of Barber, Evans and Fryar and ultimately concluded his career with Century 21. He loved the water and NASCAR, but above all, he loved the Lord. Hal was a faithful member of Englewood Baptist Church and an active participant in its PrimeTimers ministry. Possessing a true servant’s heart, he would do anything for anyone. Affectionately known among his family and friends as “Ole Blue Eyes,” Hal gave one final, selfless gift through the donation of his eyes, allowing someone else to benefit from those beautiful blue eyes that were so much a part of him.
Left to cherish his precious memory, his wife of 30 years, Mary Bryan Pitt Fryar; his children, Dana Fryar Severini (Billie) of Rocky Mount, Gina Fryar of Rocky Mount, Layne Jeffreys King of Rocky Mount, and Robert Nelson Jeffreys, Jr. (Kryssy) of Nashville; his grandchildren, Logan Severini, Chandler Severini, Morgan Severini, Lexie Rounds, Brayden Tosto, Taylor King, Peyton Thompson, Dylan Jeffreys, Tyler Jeffreys, Jaden Harris, and Shelby Jeffreys, his great-grandchildren, Dakota, Gatlin, and Landri; his sister, Becky Fryar Maynard (Billy); his special niece, Angie Maynard Beddingfield (Ronnie); his niece, Stacy Maynard (David); his nephew, BJ Maynard (Dawn); and his canine companions, Marley and Kobe.

Mary brian, I’m so sorry to hear about Hal’s passing. Sending hugs, prayers and love. Annette Allen
A good friend and classmate.
Sending lots of Love and prayers to Mrs Fryar and his daughter.
What a great time we had as children growing up on Hargrove Street in Rocky Mount. Those were the days when all the neighborhood kids were outside skating and riding bikes, sliding and swinging and playing ball. He and Becky lived one house away from us and I cherish the pictures my dad took at birthday parties and church events of all of us.
We parted ways after high school but often heard about his success in real estate and other ventures. My Mom especially loved him and on her last visit to Rocky Mount was delighted to spend time with him at his office. When she passed away in 2022 at 101 yrs old Hal and Mary Bryan drove 6 hours to attend her home going service. I will never forget looking out and seeing his face when I stood to speak.
Our hearts are rejoicing that he is with Jesus and has realized what Christ died to give him. I believe our separation won’t be permanent. Our love and prayers to all the family. We will be lifting you in prayer.
Hal was a very kind and generous man. I always enjoyed speaking with him. He was a true gentleman. He will be missed. he had a very calm demeanor. Sincerely, Greg Pierce
Hal and I were best friends when we were teenagers attending Arlington Street Baptist Church. I have such great memories of spending time with him. He and I normally shared a tent on Boy Scout camping trips and I remember our laughing well into the night. We hunted together and spent many an hour at the Goody Shop watching to see what girls were coming by. I was happy to learn of his success in life as I always knew he would do well in whatever he attempted. He was very smart and very driven. His loss will be felt by many including me.
MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AS YOU MOVE THROUGH THIS MOST DIFFICULT TIME. HAL WAS A VERY NICE MAN. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.
Mary Bryan, prayers for peace and comfort you as you go through this difficult time with Hal’s passing…Hal was a very nice and gracious guy and always so pleasant to be around…now resting in peace…

Mary Bryan, I am so very sorry for your loss. God will be with you during this tender time. Sending hugs from a long time ago. Take care, B
Hal was a wonderful man of faith. He lived his faith by serving others. He was a giver of his time and talents to others. When I shared our need for leaders during our Wednesday night children’s ministry, Hal asked what can I do. He was faithful to love and engage with our Kindergarten students every week. He was a frequent visitor to David after his heart attack. Hal was the real deal. He didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk. We are praying for all of you during this time and the days following as you start a new normal. May the Lord be your comfort and strength. We love you.
Hal was a Friend and Mentor starting at Re/Max. He definitely made an Impact on my wife, Catherine and I. A Man of Faith, Family and Friendship. Always had an Open Door.
Hopefully in a Lifetime you meet someone who makes a difference in your Life. Someone you will always remember and respect. Hal was that Person to me.
Mary Bryan, my heart is with you and your family. There could be no finer gentleman than Hal. Lloyd and I were blessed to have you as neighbors and missed you when you moved. We are forever grateful to know that God keeps His promises, the greatest being eternal life with Him when we are adopted into His family through Jesus. Hal now partakes of that promise and we will see him again. With love, Sarah
