Henry Cephus Worrell, age 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, August 04, 2011 at the Albemarle in Tarboro where he lived for the past 3 years. He was born June 2, 1916 in Wilson County to the late Joe Cephus and Bettie Griffin Worrell. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Ophelia Pridgen Worrell; brothers, Thurston, Ernest and John Worrell; sister, Nellie Worrell Lynn; and grandson, Michael Ross Holloman.
Henry was a man of many talents. His livelihood was mostly farming and growing tobacco, but he also ran a fish market, worked for the railroad, raised honey bees, ran a go cart track and ran a service station. His smile and gentle nature will surely be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Peggy Holloman (Fletcher), Carolyn Lancaster (J.F.) and Debbie Wheeler (Phil); son, C.T. Worrell (Faye), all of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Laura Debroux (Mike), Kelly Holloman (Renee), Jeff Lancaster (Kathy), Gary Lancaster (Denise), Sherry Ball (Chad), and Hope Edwards (Mike), Justin Worrell, Holly Worrell, Kyle Wheeler, and Seth Wheeler; Step-grandchildren, Philip Williams, Renee Holloman and Kay Thompson; 17 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He will also be remembered by his two sisters, Emma Lancaster of Rocky Mount and Sallie Mae Braswell of Tarboro.
His family extends extreme gratitude to West Edgecombe Baptist Church, Teele Rawls, Jane Jernigan, Ben Mary Bradley and the Homebound Group for all the visits and goodies they shared with Henry. Also a special thank you to the staff at the Albemarle, in skilled nursing for the past month and nearly 3 years in the Assisted Living section.
A funeral service to remember Henry will be held at 3:00pm Tuesday, August 09, 2011 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service at 2:00pm and other times at the home of Phil and Debbie Wheeler. Rev. Terry Brooks and Rev. Harry Kahn of West Edgecombe Baptist Church will officiate the service.
