Gurney Virgil McDonald

Gurney Virgil McDonald, age 100, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Born in Randolph County on October 30, 1913, he was the son of the late William Lacy McDonald and Minnie Cross McDonald. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Josephine Craven McDonald; son, James Farrell McDonald; and nine brothers. Gurney retired as a mechanic from E.F. Craven Company after 36 years of service. He leaves behind his daughter, Delores M. Underwood of Rocky Mount; sons, Joseph H. McDonald and wife Helen of Bethany OK and Gary W. McDonald and wife Linda of Supply NC; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service to remember Gurney will be held at 11:00am Friday, April 25, 2014 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Hogan officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. At 11:00am on Saturday, there will be a graveside service held for Gurney at Forest Lawn Cemetery. 3901 Forest Lawn Drive, Greensboro NC where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Josephine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to English Road Baptist Church, 1111 English Road, High Point NC 27262; West Mount Baptist Church, 8487 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount NC 27803 or a charity of your choice.
