Mr. Gregory Alan Edwards, age 62, of Rocky Mount, NC, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.
Born September 1, 1948 in Aurora, IL, he was a son of the late Richard Lawrence Edwards and Charlene May Peaks Edwards of Greenville, NC.
Mr. Edwards was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in Vietnam, and was a transportation representative for the Room Store in Rocky Mount, NC. He was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Edwards was a hard worker, but above all, he was a loving husband and father, and an extremely loving and proud PawPaw. A connoisseur of lawn maintenance, he also enjoyed cooking on the grill, his pool, and beach music.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Fannie Belle Rollins Edwards, also known as "Cotton"; two daughters, Sherry Haniotes and her husband, Michael, of San Tan Valley, AZ and Kimberly Morrisette and her husband, Craig, of Greenville, NC; a sister, Marcia Board and her husband, Mike, of Greenville, NC; a brother, Jim Edwards of Nashville, NC; and six grandchildren, Katelyn Haniotes, Christopher Haniotes, Christian Haniotes, Kathryn Haniotes, all of San Tan Valley, AZ and Caleb Morrisette, and Lydia Morrisette, both of Greenville, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount. The Rev. Bob Bergland and the Rev. David Beam will officiate. Burial will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC at a later date with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount Discretionary Fund, 100 South Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Greg or Daddy Greg as my husband Billy would refer to him was a family friend. Greg was a good man and we were so shocked that he passed away Fri., 0218. Billy will remember him not only as a co-worker but as a dear friend.Our hearts are heavy knowing that he is no longer with us. Greg is in a better place were he will no longer be in pain or suffer anymore. He will never be forgotten by the people that loved and cared for him. i just found out of gregs passing on 224. I wish i had made it to his funeral, Their was something about him.Most of the time when i saw him i was on my way out on a run and he was coming in but i alway tried to talk to him but only for just a few minutes i could tell he wanted to get home to his ( COTTON) . It’s nice knowing he is no longer in pain and that his heart was in the right place. You guys are in our thoughts and prayers.
