Gid Arthur “GA” Morris, Jr.

ROCKY MOUNT - Gid Arthur "GA" Morris, Jr., age 88, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Born in Nash County, NC on January 1, 1934, he was the son of the late Gid Arthur Morris, Sr. and Jewell Elizabeth Etheridge Morris. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Osborne Morris; and his sister, Erma Morris Smith.
GA served proudly in the US Army and was a longtime member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church. He began his career in the auto parts industry until his retirement after 40 years, first with Davis & Company and later with Proctor & Morris Auto Parts Store. GA was infatuated with buying tools which he would use when working on old and antique cars, a hobby he had a passion for. Equally so, he was known for his lust of eating ice cream cones. GA was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
GA is survived by his wife, Doris Ellen Pate Morris; his son, David Morris and wife, C.B. of Rocky Mount; his daughter, Susan Morris Spann of Katy, TX; his seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Marquis and husband Drew, Georgia Morris, Melinda Quinteros and husband Julian, Sheila Long and husband James, Charles A. Spann, Virginia Spann, and Sadie Shearer and her husband, Aaron; his three great-grandchildren, Cora and Cullen Long and Amira Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service to celebrate GA's life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, March 25, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in GA's memory to Nash UNC Health Care Hospice & Palliative Care, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

GA was a great and loving uncle. He influenced my life from baby, toddler and up. He was loving and fun to be around. I will miss you uncle GA.

I was very sorry to hear of GA’s passing. I worked at Davis & Co. when I was in college and he was the manager. He was a great guy and very nice person to work for. I learned a lot working there and will always have fond memories of Morris and my time there. My sincere condolences to the family.
