NASHVILLE - Georgia Mildred Nobles Thompson, age 92, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021. Born in Loudoun County, VA on June 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Claude Nobles and Isabelle Collier Nobles. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester Bryant Thompson; her daughter, Dena Beth Thompson; her brothers, Frank L. Nobles, John A. Nobles, Harold E. Nobles, C. Milton Nobles, and James Preston Nobles; and her sisters, Lucille N. Carpenter and Elsie N. Clark.
Mildred worked alongside her husband, Lester, for more than 50 years as bookkeeper/receptionist at their business, Thompson Heating and Air Conditioning Co. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church until it closed in 2009 and been a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church since that time.
Her life was dedicated to living her Christian values and nurturing and caring for family and friends. Her carefully woven legacy embraced these ideals. She took her children's friends into her heart and loved them from that time forward.
Always remembering those less fortunate or those who were struggling, she was known for showing up just when someone needed a little extra love and support. Her beautiful smile brightened many a room she entered.
Mildred loved everyone, loved a crowd, welcomed everyone into her home with open arms, always had a meal for anyone, and always encouraged laughter in her home. She truly saw the best in everyone.
She loved participating in the Pacesetters Walking Club. Mildred loved poetry, dabbled in writing poetry and enjoyed journaling. She was an active volunteer in many efforts, never looking for credit but always willing to help with any task. She enjoyed volunteering at the YWCA and belonging to their Travel Club, often serving as a tour guide. She and a group of her friends, who called themselves "The Sunshine Sisters", entertained shut-ins for many years. She personified the meaning of the word support.
Mildred had a wonderful talent for making the holidays magical (especially Christmas) and managed to keep the true meaning of Christmas forefront in her life all throughout the years.
If asked about her most special joys in life, she would always answer that it was her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren as she was so proud of all of them.
Mildred is survived by her children, Brenda Claire Thompson of Nashville, Paula Thompson Harrelson (Ryland) of Columbus, GA; and Keith Bryant Thompson (Sandra) of Kinston; her grandchildren, Bryan Lee Harrelson (Jenni), Leslie Claire Harrelson Blackwell (Duncan), Rev. Jamie Lee Thompson, and Rev. Laura Keith Thompson; her great-grandchildren, Ella Frances Harrelson, Preston Lee Harrelson, Anna Claire Blackwell, and Grace Dulany Blackwell; her sister-in-law, Audrey Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
