George William “Hank” Smith

George William "Hank" Smith, 66, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born August 21, 1944 in Edgecombe County, son of the late Burt Smith and Pearl Freeman Smith. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Smith; and brothers, J.B. Smith and Marvin Smith. Known by his friends as "Hank", he loved listening to the music by Hank Williams, Sr. He was a welder by trade, an avid horseman and rider and greatly enjoyed his time at "Mule Day" in Benson. Hank leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Carolyn Smith; daughters, Denise Smith and fianc Elijah House of Bailey and Billie Jo Nichols and husband Stephen of Pinetops; grandchildren, Chris Bridgers and Preston King; step-daughters, Lisa Lindsey and Jody Lindsey; and brother, Robert Smith of Rocky Mount. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7-8:30p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A graveside service to remember Hank will be at 2:00p.m. Wednesday afternoon at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Allen Williams officiating.
