George Westray Bunn

Rocky Mount - George Westray Bunn, III passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Autumn Care of Nashville. Westray was born April 13, 1928 in Augusta, Georgia to the late G.W. Bunn, Jr. and Eugenia Bergeron Bunn. He served his country during World War II serving in the U.S. Army-Air Force and U.S. Navy. During his time spent in the Navy he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Grouper submarine. After service Westray attended Wake Forest University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He retired from Occidental Oil Company after 31 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Taylor Bunn of the home; daughter, Martha Jeffreys Bunn of Calabash, NC; son, David Carter Bunn of Rocky Mount; sister, Anne B. Christian and her husband Dr. B.J. Christian of Greensboro ; step-daughter, Ann Parker Carr of Rocky Mount and step-grandchildren, Claire Carr and Allen Carr. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances Bunn and step-son-in-law, Johnny Carr. Graveside services will be 2:00p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at Oakdale Cemetery in Spring Hope with Dr. Carleton McKita officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Boy Scouts of America, East Carolina Council 426, P.O.   1. I only met Mr. Bunn a couple of times years ago, but his presence made a lasting impression on me of man that was very comfortable in his on skin. Not many people are able to attain that in life. Brent Tyndall
