George Alton Lancaster

ROCKY MOUNT - George Alton Lancaster, age 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Born in Wilson County on May 21, 1941, he was the son of the late Atlas David Lancaster, Sr. and Bessie Alice Moore Lancaster Coggin. He was also preceded in death by his five brothers, William, Charles, David, A.D. Jr., and Henry; his three sisters, Dot Fagan, Alma Gaither, and Rose Foos. George served his country from 1960-1962 in the U.S. Army. George worked installing heating and air conditioning for several years. He retired in 2000 after 20 years as a Maintenance Mechanic in housing. George has been a member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church for several years. Serving on a kitchen cooking team for Wednesday night suppers, on the properties committee, and Meals on Wheels, before his health would not allow him to. He enjoyed working in his garden and yard. George is survived by his wife of 26 years, Elizabeth Bass Lancaster, three brothers, John Lancaster and wife, Sue, of Goldsboro, Bobby Lancaster and wife, Susie, of Antioch, IL, Joe Lancaster and wife, Joan, of Timonium, MD; sister-in-law, Ellen Lancaster, of Greensboro; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Robin Fisher officiating. Burial will follow the service at Joyner Family Cemetery located behind the family home. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.   4. My deepest condolences to the Lancaster family.i knew George when I was a kid and while he worked for Merritt Plumbing and Heating. My father, Milton owned the Mobil station in the attached building. George and Jimmy Rivenbark worked together. I still remember George’s ’62 Chevy convertible. Rest in Peace, George..
