George Albert Burton, Jr., 83, died on Sunday, November 4, 2012. George was born in Nash County on September 10, 1929 to the late George Albert Burton Sr. and Hallie Wills Kyser Burton.
George attended Rocky Mount Senior High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He began working at the age of 14 for his father at Garrett Tobacco Company where he worked for 21 years. He later retired as an investment broker for Legg Mason Securities at the age of 64.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Margaret F. Burton; sons, George Albert Burton, III and wife, Mary Memmott of Framingham, MA, John Bynum Burton and wife, Danielle C. Burton of Ansonia, CT; daughter, Bethany Burton Tharin and husband, John W. Tharin of Rocky Mount, NC; six grandchildren, Ellen Burton, Amelia Burton, Gracie Byrd Tharin, Will Tharin, Hailey Burton, and Samantha Burton.
A private graveside service was held at 10:00am on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount.
