ROCKY MOUNT - Garland Gene "G-Man" Joyner, age 78, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Born in Nash County, NC on May 16, 1938, he was the son of the late Willis Columbus Joyner and Elsie Joyner. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Randolph, Lotis, James, and Ricky Joyner; and sisters, JoAnn Rizzo and Joyce Hagans.
G-Man served in the United States Army Reserve. A man of great faith, he was a member of Fountain of Life Church of God of Prophecy. He was very active with the Backpack and Food Bank ministries within the church and he also loved his church family. G-Man was an active member of the West Mount Ruritan Club and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He would always go to Sharpsburg Restaurant on Wednesdays to eat breakfast with his cousins or better known as the "Joyner Gang". He was a humble man, always putting others before himself and he loved his family unconditionally. He never met a stranger and loved to joke with family and friends, and he sometimes would tell the joke more than once. His grandchildren and great-grandson were the apple of his eye. G-Man was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
G-Man leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 56 years, Carole Glover Joyner; son, Jeff Joyner and wife, Susan, of Rocky Mount; and daughter, Kelly Joyner Casale and husband, Dr. Joe Casale, of Marietta, GA. He is also survived by grandchildren, Grace Joyner; Halie Joyner Hale and husband, Jordan; Summer Joyner; Curtis Joyner; Grant Casale; and Bella Casale; great-grandson, J.C. Hale; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a person with integrity, morals a strong faith believing and love for his Lord Christ Jesus; his wife, Carol and children, Jeff and Kelly grand children and great grand children. Hello Carol, Jeff, & Kelly My heartfelt sympathy goes out to your family.. I remember living down the road from you all. Joe and Jeff and Joseph B and the Poland boy — were friends and hung out up & down Wood Crest and W.Tarboro Rd. Back & forth between homes and having good times together.. It doesn’t seem to have been all that long ago… But since they were 10 – 13 years of age to now.. Kelly was just a baby, I never really go to know her, But I send my love to all of you.. May God give you His comfort with his arms around all, the peace and joy in your hearts that when Jesus comes again… you will see Garland again.. God’s blessings to . Lovingly, Susie Hales Purvis Toffton

My condolences to the family. Take comfort from Gods word the Bible. This is a distress time for the family but in Psalms 461 it states God is our refuge and strength, A help that is readily found in times of distress. Also it is so encouraging to read Isiah 258 which states He will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces. What a wonderful blessing for your and your entire family to enjoy.
Mr. Garland was a very kind and giving man. He will be missed. Joy & Nick
