Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
I worked with Fred for 13 years on the SCL and later CSX railroad. I was with the CSX Police and Special Services Department and we had a lot of contact with the men in the Communications and Signals Department. I knew Fred’s wife, Patricia Kelly and his brother-in-law Randy Kelly from Wilmington. Fred was always good for a story or two and as a veteran myself I was quite interested in his stories about his time in the USMC, particularly his experience at Chosin Reservoir…known to many Korean War veterans as Frozen Chosin. But I remember Fred as a friend who was always glad to see you. Even at the worst of derailments with cars stacked on top of each other and signal equipment torn to pieces, Fred was always upbeat. We would look at the derailment and wonder just how in the hell such a thing could have happened. So, Fred, from one veteran to another Rest in Peace, my friend. You’ve jolly well earned it.
