NASHVILLE - Frances Singletary Ludlum, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2012. Born in Bladenboro NC on April 30, 1927, she was the youngest of three girls born to Berta and Tullie Singletary. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Vivian Hester and Mildred Hester.
Frances lost her husband, Joseph “Buddy” Ludlum many years ago and raised her only daughter, Diane from the age of nine to adulthood. Frances was a living example of someone who gave the maximum to her family and friends with love every day. Frances was generous and kind. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and the many she touched with her special homemade cakes given to others on special occasions. Frances was an active member of her Sunday School class and the Nashville Lions Club.
She shared her life with her daughter, Diane Ludlum Swindell and husband Senator A.B. Swindell IV at the family home in Nashville. One of her greatest joys was helping others especially her beloved grandsons whom she helped raise. Each enjoyed the attention of a loving Grandmother “in house”. She leaves behind three grandsons, Walton Wright Smith III, and William Joseph Smith, both of Wilmington and Russell Atkinson Swindell II and wife Meredith Lovelace Swindell of Raleigh; and two great-grandsons, Noah and Quincy Swindell.
A service to remember Frances will be held at 10:00am Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Nashville United Methodist Church, 209 E. Washington Street, Nashville NC with the Rev. Ralph Brown officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm following the visitation at Lewis Cemetery in Bladenboro NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Nashville Lions Club, Nashville United Methodist Church or Nash Community College.
