Frances Davidson Adams

Rocky Mount – Frances Davidson Adams, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.  Born in Bertie County, NC on June 22, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Claude D. Davidson and Josephine Adams Davidson Ward.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Battle Adams; and her brothers, William Cohen Davidson, Herbert Rudolph “Pete” Davidson, Walter J. Davidson, and foster sister Mary Ellen Harris Taylor.

Frances is survived by sisters-in-law, Elise Sykes and Rachel Adams; nephew Jack Sykes (Barbara); niece Dianne Zucker (Robert); great nieces Elanah Abrams (Allen), and their son Asher, and Kimberly Seifert (Bryan), and their daughter Kate Seifert.

Frances spent her school years at the Kennedy Children’s Home in Kinston and enjoyed swimming and diving in their pool.  Upon graduation from Lagrange High School, she attended business school where she learned bookkeeping and worked for the City of Lagrange in the bookkeeping department.

Frances found her “soulmate” Ernest B Adams while staying with the Adams family in Rocky Mount.  She was employed for several years by Orkin prior to becoming the devoted wife and business partner of Ernest, who operated Adams Upholstery Shop in Rocky Mount and then at their home in Red Oak.  Frances enjoyed yard work, gardening, and growing flowers in her green house.  She and Earnest were very fond of Boston Bull Dogs of which they raised two, “Pug” and “Tammy” as their “children”.  Frances was an avid walker in Tarrytown Mall and was awarded a plaque for walking over 1000 miles.  She and Ernest loved socializing while eating at Brian’s and sitting at the “Round Table”. You may still find her name under a seat at the “Round Table”.  After moving to the Flat Rock community outside Red Oak, they became members of Red Oak Baptist Church where they met many new friends and enjoyed attending services regularly.

A Graveside Service to celebrate Frances’s life will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, with Rev. Chris Fowler officiating.  Visitation with the family will be following the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
