Frances Copeland Brooks Viverette

ROCKY MOUNT - Janet Frances Copeland Brooks Viverette departed this life on Monday, June 27, 2011, just 5 days from her 97th birthday. Frances was the daughter of the late Caleb Francis Copeland and Rosa Lee Speight Copeland of Sunbury, NC. She was the widow of Henry Brooks and the widow of L.S. (Shirt) Viverette. Born July 2, 1914 in Gates County NC, she graduated from Sunbury High School, attended Louisburg College and graduated from Park View Hospital School of Nursing as an RN, working for many years as an OB-GYN nurse for Dr. Thorp in Rocky Mount. Frances lived for many years in Rocky Mount, but in her latter years moved to Battleboro, where she was once known as the Good Samaritan of Battleboro, an honorary title that suited her well and epitomized the life of service to others that she embraced. Survivors include her nephew, Ralph Copeland of Montpelier VA and her niece, Jean Copeland Sullender of Chesapeake VA. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to Lorraine Marriott, Jean Flye and Tom Warren of Battleboro for their friendship and devotion to Frances and to the capable staff of Brekenridge Assisted Living in Rocky Mount for their excellent care. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, July 2, 2011, in honor of her birthday, at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home.
