ROCKY MOUNT – Eugene “Gene” Winstead Herring, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.  Born in New Hanover County, NC on September 19, 1949, he was the son of the late Edward Ivey Herring, Jr. and Eleanor Jean Herring.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward Ivey Herring, III.

Gene is survived by his brother, David Herring and wife, Helen; and his nephews, Robert Herring, James Herring, and Michael Herring.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Burial will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery,  520 N. 15th Street, Wilmington, NC  28401.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gene’s memory to Braswell Memorial Library, 727 N. Grace Street, Rocky Mount, NC  27804 or Northlake Assembly of God, 2632 Sunset Road, Charlotte, NC  28216.
