Elizabeth Griffin Reges

Elizabeth "Lib" Griffin Reges, age 100, died on Wednesday, August 18th, 2010. She was born May 19, 1910 in Red Oak, N.C. to Henry Daniel Griffin and Nina Jones Griffin. Mrs. Reges was preceded in death by her parents, husband R. U. Reges, Jr., 5 brothers: Tommy, Henry Lee, Russell, Fenner, and Bruce Griffin, sisters: Mamie G. Reid and Hattie Grace Edwards. She graduated from Red Oak High School, East Carolina, and Atlantic Christian College. Mrs. Reges taught 35 years: 1 year at Chinquapin in Duplin County, 26 years at Red Oak, and 8 years at Swift Creek. She was honored as “teacher of the year” at Swift Creek in 1972. She was a faithful leader in her profession, holding various jobs in the NCAE, the Association of Classroom Teachers, and the NEA. In 2003 she was presented a plaque in recognition and appreciation of many years of dedicated service to Edgecombe-Nash Retired School Personnel. She has been a member of Red Oak Baptist Church since 1920 and has served in many capacities as a Sunday School teacher, Baptist Womens president, and church clerk for 43 years. She was always willing to serve wherever needed. She enjoyed being a member of the Red Oak Cracker Jacks. She leaves to cherish her memory a caring and devoted son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Claudette Reges; grandchildren Heather and Chad Thompson, Kristie and Greg Elder; great grandchildren Anna Shaye and Brooke Thompson and Mia Elizabeth Elder; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Reges loved her church family and her friends, but most of all she loved her family. A service to remember Lib will be held at 11:00am Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Red Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Bostian and Rev. Rucker Burnette officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. A private burial will be held at Red Oak Cemetery. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her special care givers, Emma Jenkins and Mattie Davis for their loving kindness and support and also the Emergency Room staff for their care of Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Oak Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 260, Red Oak NC 27868. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N.
