Dorothy McKnight Kight

Charleston, SC - Dorothy McKnight Kight was called by her Father in Heaven on Thursday, November 10, 2011. She was born in Florence County, South Carolina, December 7, 1921, daughter of the late John Franklin and Evelyn Louise Huggins McKnight. "Dottie" was a past member of the Eastern Star and the Englewood Garden Club. She was also a member of the Englewood United Methodist Church, Aldersgate Sunday School Class and Senior Group and Women of the Way Church Circle. She also enjoyed giving programs. She was a member of the DAR, Micajah Pettaway Chapter and the Eleanor White Dare Chapter of the North Carolina Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. She also enjoyed playing bridge and visiting with the sick and shut-ins. Her husband, Hugh Osgood Kight, Sr. preceded her in death, as well as three sisters, Lola Louise Blakely, Gladys Jenette Barton and Clarice Smiley, and two brothers, Frank Harrington and James Lloyd McKnight. She leaves to cherish her memory, her wonderful children, Hugh Osgood Kight, Jr. and wife, Chiaki of Charleston, SC, John Albert Kight and wife Sherrie of Raleigh, NC, and Ginger Kight Pickett and husband David of Virginia Beach, VA; sisters, Virley Lee Evans of Columbia, SC, and Dolorette Chastain of Myrtle Beach, SC.; her grandchildren, Kyanne Kight Delavore and husband Chris, Hugh Kyle Kight and wife Selah, Kasey Kight Vaughn and husband Lee, Donovan Kight and Samuel Pickett.; great granddaughters, Shelby Thomson, Addison Delavore, Julia Ferin Connell and Olivia Morgan Goforth; and great grandsons, Michael and J. C. Delavore, Chet Justice and Jude Mason Kight, Jake Lee Vaughn and Jaxon Thomas. The family will receive friends 7:00pm - 8:30pm on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home. A gathering to celebrate Dottie's life will be held 2:00pm Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Englewood United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Benson officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Section 54. Flowers will be adored or memorials may be made to Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
