ROCKY MOUNT - Dorothy "Dot" Reams Hayes, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Born in Nash County, NC on February 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late James Ray Reams and Grace Todd Reams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Earl Hayes; and her brothers, Arthur Lee Reams, Cecil Reams, and Bobby Reams.
Dot retired from AXA Equitable with over 30 years of dedicated service. She was a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church. Dot became a Christian at the age of 13 and was known for her compassionate, giving spirit for others. She was a giver of self, gracious to others and a helper in times of need. Dot loved people and her family dearly. In her later years, even while struggling with Alzheimer's, she was able to quote her favorite Bible verse: John 3:16.
Dot is survived by her son, Allen Hayes and wife, Elizabeth, of Wilmington; her sister, Shirley Turner and husband, Bruce, of Rocky Mount; her brother, Steve Reams and wife, Mary, of Rocky Mount; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Dot's life will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Ken Cobb officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.

I am so very sorry to hear about Dorothy. My thoughts and prayers are with all of her family during this time. I thought that was such a lovely picture of her posted with her obituary. I have not seen her in many years, but that is how I remember her. RIP sweet Dorothy.

Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of Dorothy. Dorothy, Georgia Lewis and I were best friends in high school at Benvenue and spent many happy times together. Dorothy and T-Boy visited Aubrey and me many times when we were all newly weds . My prayers for comfort for her family.
To know Aunt Dorothy was a blessing. She was an angel here on earth. She is now with another angel, her mama Granny Grace Reams. Blessed to have had her in my life. People like her are rare and far in between. Fly high Aunt Dorothy and thank you for all your love and kindness.
