Donald “Don” Edward Strickhouser, Sr.

ROCKY MOUNT - Donald "Don" Edward Strickhouser, Sr., age 94, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021. Born in Olean, Cattaraugus County, NY on October 29, 1926, he was the son of the late William N. Strickhouser and Margaret Porter Strickhouser. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Keith Strickhouser; his brothers, William Frederick Strickhouser and Richard Porter Strickhouser; and his sisters, Mary Elizabeth Strickhouser Hildreth and Mildred Strickhouser Myers. Don was brought up in York, PA until he was drafted into service during WWII by the Marine Corps right out of high school. While overseas he was stationed mostly in Guam until he received his honorable discharge following the war. He returned to York, PA for a short time before moving to North Carolina while he attended North Carolina State University where he received his degree in Engineering. Following graduation, he mostly worked for Fairfax County Government until his retirement. Following retirement, he became part owner in an engineering company for a number of years thereafter. A man of dedication and Christian faith, Don was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, an ordained Deacon, as well as a Gideon. Blessed throughout his life, he cherished God's gifts he received and devoted himself to being a faithful Christian, a trait that he proudly centered his home and family around. A loving and caring father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and dear friend to many, Don will be forever loved and forever missed. Don is survived by his son, Donald Edward "Ed" Strickhouser, Jr. (Rhonda) of Rocky Mount; his daughter, Susan Strickhouser Liverman (Rick) of Midlothian, VA; his grandchildren, Ashley Barker (Nathan) of Gainesville, VA, Justin Liverman (Allison) of Midlothian, VA, Amanda Strickhouser Williams (Alicia) of Livermore, CA, and Jason E. Strickhouser of Sacramento, CA; his great-grandchildren, Cameron Williams, Tyler Williams, Kenzie Mae Barker, Mikey Kalin Guida, and Dylan Liverman; and many nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service to celebrate Don's life will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Memorial Garden Mausoleum, 2800 Nash Street, North, Wilson, NC 27896, with Rev. Brandon Dees officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don's memory to Calvary Baptist Church, 505 Englewood Dr, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.   1. I remember him from Nash Community College handing out Bibles during registration. He was a very nice person and he always had a smiling face and something nice to say to brighten the day. RIP my friend. I am sorry for your loss. May God give you comfort and strength during these difficult times and peace for all time.
