Tarboro – David “Clay” Mitchell, age 70, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026.  Born in Edgecombe County, NC on June 5, 1956, he was the son of the late David Lee “Pete” Mitchell and Billie Carol Wright Mitchell.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Mitchell Marshall.

A man of great faith, Clay was a long-time member of Brentwood Pentecostal Holiness Church where he loved and enjoyed spending time with his church family.  A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and good friend to many, Clay will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Clay is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debbie Lynn Keel Mitchell; his daughter, Leslie Mitchell Lunsford (Jeff); his son, Chris Mitchell; his grandchildren, Rorie Lunsford, Logan Lunsford, and Anna Grace Lunsford; his sisters, Carol Mitchell Scott, Connie Mitchell Taylor (Eddie), and Cindy Mitchell Hunter (Bill); his sisters-in-law, Cindy Webb (Duane) and Wendi Lewis (James); his fur babies, Sadie and Beau; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family members, his work family, and good friends.

Family and friends are welcome to visit with the family at the family home, 2104 Summerfield Drive, Tarboro NC 27886.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Clay’s memory to Brentwood Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3806 N Main Street, Tarboro, NC 27886.
