Corinne Denson Searcy

Martha "Corinne" Denson Searcy, 84, died on October 17, 2010 after a brief illness. She was born in Nash County on June 03, 1926, daughter of the late Howard Lee Denson and Lucy Bell High Denson. She is also preceded in death by her husband Odelle G. Searcy. She is survived by two sons, Dr. William "Bill" H. Searcy and his wife Betsy Suggs-Searcy and Robert Holt Searcy, both of Rocky Mount; one daughter, Dee Searcy Landis and her husband Billy Landis of Rocky Mount; sister, June Denson Reasons and her husband Bill Reasons of New Bern; and grandchildren, Joshua, Dabraham and Esther Searcy, and Alison and Mary Katherine Landis, and Samantha Searcy. She and her husband established the first Pizza Inn in Rocky Mount in the 1960s. In later years, she worked as a medical transcriptionist at the Boice Willis Clinic for around fifteen years. Corinne was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for the past 75 years where she volunteered at the church office and served in many other capacities of the church. She also helped with the LOGOS program at Englewood United Methodist Church. Many people around the world benefited from the prayer shawls that she knitted for the sick and when she was 67 years old, she visited for a month the Church of Christ mission of her son in Meru, Kenya, East Africa. Corinne was an avid card player with her Bridge club and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She also loved gardening and crafts. She will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends. A memorial service to remember Corinne will be conducted at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home by Bill Searcy and Bob Bergland at 11:00a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the atrium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 100 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount NC 27804.
