Rocky Mount – Cicero Thomas Griffin, Jr., age 85, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Born in Nash County, NC on August 29, 1938, he was the son of the late Cicero Thomas Griffin, Sr. and Della Frances Jones Griffin of the Salem Community. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Clifton Griffin.
Cicero graduated from Red Oak High School of Class of 1956. He worked in the public service-related career with over 60 years of dedicated service. Cicero was a longtime member and served as a Deacon with Lighthouse Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. Cicero was very proud of all five of his children. All of them followed him in public service-related careers. Cicero’s activities ranged from youth group leader to chaperoning band activities, sports, hunting, fishing, and cooking. He had the gift of prayer, and service to his community and would do anything to help others.Cicero is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irma Jean Mooring Griffin; his children, Gloria Joyner (Steve), Lynn Jenkins (Bill), Cynthia Cartee, Tom Griffin, III (Ginger), and Mike Griffin (Rebecca); his grandchildren, Katie Dodd, Matthew Joyner, Brooke Eure, Spec. Christoper Cartee, and Capt. Jordan McLeod, and Connor Griffin; his sister, Jewel Pullen (Kenneth) and several nieces and nephews. Special family friends are Stephanie and Michael Webb.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Cicero’s life will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Rev. Wayne Sullivan and Tim Andrews officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Cicero’s memory to Lighthouse Baptist Church, PO Box 7304, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

A man I’m glad I had meet in life. Condolences to the family, my heart goes out to y’all, especially Mike. One Great memory was having Thanksgiving dinner with Cicero Sr., Jr. and family out on the Blackjack Oaks Farm when I was a young man.
