Cheryl Ann Hrebik Hutton

November 24, 1945 ~ May 29, 2022

Cheryl Ann Hutton (Hrebik), age 76, passed away Sunday May 29, 2022, due to respiratory distress. She was born November 24, 1945, in Joliet, Illinois to Frank and Arliss (Farmer) Hrebik and married her longtime friend and love, Roger Allen Hutton, on August 20, 1966. Cheryl is a 1963 graduate of Coal City High School. During her school years, she enjoyed every form of dance and twirled the baton. She was a very social person, who was always found surrounded by her closest friends and relatives including her dear sisters-in-law Angie (Jim) Hutton & Darla (Ronnie) Hutton. The three of them conquered the decades of life together between motherhood to maintaining the bonds of friendship and love through distance after her beloved husband moved the family to Rocky Mount, North Carolina in the summer of 1981. During the early years of their marriage, Cheryl enjoyed cheering her beloved husband Roger on as he traveled the country as a semi-professional bowler. For a short time, they co-owned a bowling alley in Wilmington, IL, with Roger's brothers and their wives…adding to the extremely tight family bond. Cheryl was not just a devoted friend and sister-in-law, she was a fierce mom and grandmother who loved her family deeply. Roger & Cheryl welcomed son, Shawn Allen, on June 6, 1972, and daughter, Shelby Ann Marie, on May 11, 1976. She was present at the hospital when her first grandson, Jackson Allen arrived in June 2001 to son Shawn & daughter-in-law Vanessa. She was also present in June 2006 when grandson #2, Benjamin Ashley arrived. 2006 proved to be a joyous year, as she closed the year with the arrival of granddaughter #1, Bailey Allora, born to daughter Shelby & son-in-law Andy. In November of 2011, granddaughter #2, Aubrey Elizabeth was born. Throughout the years, she worked for many different companies including Caterpillar although her biggest career role was that of bookkeeper and administrator of the offices at NEW Academy, where her son and daughter completed their primary and secondary education. She truly loved being considered the school "Mom" and after Shawn & Shelby graduated and went off to fulfill their college degrees, Cheryl took a relaxed approach to her career and worked in retail sales to keep her social and to expand her love of shoes! After Roger retired in 2010, they enjoyed trips to explore the latest location her son, Shawn moved his family to including such locations as Phoenix, AZ; New York City; and most recently Portland, Oregon. Unlike her gypsy son, her daughter Shelby kept things easy by settling in Wilmington, NC allowing for a short 2-hour drive for regular visits with granddaughters to watch their many softball, volleyball, and basketball games. Cheryl shared a love of reading, Duke basketball games, and NASCAR with her family and will be survived in life by husband Roger, her son Shawn (Vanessa) Hutton, her daughter Shelby (Andy) Bettencourt, grandsons Jackson & Benjamin Hutton and granddaughters Bailey & Aubrey and her step-grandson Riley Bettencourt. Due to Cheryl's loved ones living in multiple cities across the country, there will be two celebrations for her life. The first Celebration of Life will be a Special Gathering of Family and Friends to be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The second Celebration of Life with be held later this summer in Coal City, IL at a date to be announced within the following weeks where Cheryl will be put to rest.
