Cash Williams Haggerty

On Wednesday, August 18, 2010 we said goodbye to our Dad and our good friend, Cash Williams Haggerty, 91 years of age. Cash was born and raised in Eastern N.C. He was educated at Fishburne Military School , Villanova University and Mt.St.Marys College . Upon returning to Rocky Mount in 1939 to co-manage the family lumber business, Williams Lumber Company; he married the love of his life, Louise Raines ("Tippy") who predeceased him in 1992. Cash then proudly served in the Third Division of the U.S.Marine Corp. serving in China thus creating his keen interest in the Chinese Arts. He maintained the "Semper Fi" motto throughout his life by always being faithful to his family, his work and his faith. Cash is survived by his daughter, Theresa and her husband Drew Harrell of Wake Forest; sons, Michael and his wife Debbie of Mackeys Ferry and Barton and his wife, Peggy of Knightdale. He has 7 grandchildren; Bridget Harrell Bender, Cash W. Haggerty III, Raines Haggerty, Chandler Harrell, Katherine Haggerty Moran, Justin Haggerty and Kristin Haggerty and 6 great grandchildren. His sisters Jean H. Kilby of Tarboro and Loretta H. Salisbury of Rocky Mount survive him; many wonderful nieces and nephews and the Joe Haggerty family who have offered him so much love and support. Cash was predeceased by his parents, his first son, Cash W.("Chuck"), his brothers, Joe and Jim. Cash has been a devout Catholic worshipping at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church throughout his life. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the church with the Father Tim Meares, celebrant. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Section 33. There will be a visitation at the house on Friday afternoon from 5 until 7:00 pm. Memorials may be made in Cash's honor to the Cash Haggerty Memorial Fund c/o Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1015 Ashes Drive, Suite 101 , Wilmington , NC 28405 (910-509-9899) to help find a cure for his loved ones and others.
