TARBORO – Brenda Moore Overton, age 78, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026.  Born in Wilson County, NC on November 16, 1947, she was the daughter of the late James Grady Moore and Gertrude Matthews Moore.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Carl Moore and Carson Moore; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Heath.

Brenda will be remembered for her impeccable sense of style and natural beauty, always carrying herself with grace and elegance.  She had a true gift for gardening and was known for her green thumb, finding great joy in caring for her flowers and spending time outdoors.  Brenda dedicated many years of faithful service to Barnhill Contracting Company, where she built lasting friendships before her retirement.  Above all, her greatest happiness came from her family.  She adored her grandson and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them.  Brenda also loved the beach, where she found peace, relaxation, and some of her most treasured memories.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 13 years, Kenneth “Ken” Overton, Jr.; her daughter, Sherri Harrell Lewis; her grandson, Austin Drake Turner; her great-grandchildren, Wade Robert Turner and Arya Lynn Turner; her brothers, Billy Moore (Kay), Mac Moore (Joann), Robert Moore (Lori), Randy Moore (Pauline), and Danny Moore; her sister, Virginia Heath; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Brenda’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Richard Gurganus officiating.  Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home until 4:30 PM.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Brenda’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
