Conetoe - Bobby Gene Carlisle, age 70, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022. Born in Pitt County, NC on August 1, 1951, he was the son of the late Ashley Benjamin Carlisle, Jr. and Doris Marie Knox Carlisle. He is also predeceased by his son, Jason Lee Carlisle; and his brother, Jerry Wayne Carlisle.
Bobby was the middle child and a great brother to his siblings. He and his brother loved nothing better as children than to ride his horse to friends' homes on Saturday mornings to watch the westerns together on TV. After that, they would ride their horses over the farm. Bobby was quite mischievous and loved playing pranks on his older sister, like sneaking into her room and playing records on her record player. His mother taught him to love music, and always kept a radio playing at home. He attended Speed School through the eighth grade, and then North Edgecombe Highschool, graduating in June 1970. Always industrious, Bobby worked part time after school, at the A&P grocery store and then Marrow Pitt Hardware. He attended Pitt Community College for one year, and then Edgecombe Community College, taking electrical courses. Bobby met the love of his life at the Strickland's home in the fall of 1969. They began dating six months later, and found they both shared a love of dancing, music, and later, water sports and auctions. They were married July 2, 1972. Bobby worked at Monarch Mills, American Enka, and then decided to go back to the farm to work, helping his father. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed being on a tractor. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, but also just enjoyed being outdoors observing nature, and would read anything pertaining to wildlife. In the early years, each hunting season, he would grill deer hams and invite friends and family over for dinner. In later years, friends and family enjoyed his famous deer jerky as a special Christmas treat. He shared his love of hunting with his brother, and later his son, and grandson. When his father retired, Bobby decided to stop farming due to his R.A., and went to work at EPM Machine Shop. He also worked part time repairing lawn mowers at Southern States until February of 2001, when he had a heart attack and was forced to retire due to health Issues. Even though he was not able to work full time, Bobby enjoyed "tinkering" on lawn mowers when he was able. He was truly a "jack of all trades" and could fix anything. He loved taking things people had no use for and fixing them. He and his grandson would tinker together on bicycles, taking them to the river place to share with friends. He loved working with wood and making things in his shop. Bobby also loved growing vegetables in his garden and sharing with friends. After his wife retired, they were able to travel, enjoying trips across the U.S.A. with groups, and camping from the mountains to the coast of N.C. Bobby was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and fur babies. He loved spending time with them on the farm, at the beach, camping at the Pamlico River, and seeing them participate in church Christmas programs.
Bobby leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 49 years and 7 months, June Gay Carlisle; his daughter, Amy Carlisle Dixon; his son, Ashley Benjamin Carlisle III; his grandsons, Cooper Lee Dixon and Austin Carlisle Dixon; his sister, Betty Lou Newell; his nieces, Judy Carson Caton and husband Phil, Crystal Lynn Carlisle, Robin Newell Whitaker and husband Kevan; his nephew, David Newell, Jr and wife, Lawanda; his five great-nephews, his three great, great-nephews, and a great, great-niece. He will be sorely missed by not only family, but many friends.

June and family, Words are hard to find at a time like this for the hurt is so deep and real. The most soothing I have found are in the poem of Footprints In the Sand…For during times like these you will only see one set of prints, this is when the Lord is carrying you. He will carry you when you feel you can’t stand on your own. He is your strength peace and comfort. Just know that Bobby is not suffering anymore and he is in the arms of God. Bobby was a special husband, father and grandfather and he will be missed by many. Hugs and prayers for the entire family. Becky & Sam
