Billy Richard Turner

Billy Richard Turner, 80, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, October 24, 2010. Born September 10, 1930 in Edgecombe County, he is the son of the late Jake Turner and Pauline Jones Turner. He was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin Earl Turner and Lee Roy Turner. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Janet Creekmore Turner; son, Julius G. Turner; and daughter, Janet Turner Pittman. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Kimberly Pittman Broughton, Billy Richard Turner II and Emalie Caroline Turner. He is also survived by sisters, Pauline Turner Joyner, Peggy Turner Ellison, Betty Turner Crooker, Rose Turner Carroll and Melva Turner Carpenter (Bruce); brothers, Freddie N. Turner (Lois), and Hubert Ray Turner (Denise); and a special family, Ruben L. Terry and wife Darlene and their daughter, Ashton; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. The important things in Billy's life were his family and friends. He treasured honesty, truth and being fair to his fellow man. Billy loved his church and looked forward to going. It held a special place in his heart. He loved fishing, hunting, cooking and most of all doing for others. He also enjoyed his years as a volunteer fireman. He is the last volunteer of the Rocky Mount Fire Department. A memorial service to remember Billy will be held at 6:00p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in the chapel at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home with Pastor William D. Harper officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. A committal will be held at a later date. Flowers will be accepted, but preference is that memorials may be made to Carriage Road Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8847, Rocky Mount NC 27804.
