Betty Ruth Ellis

Rocky Mount - Betty Ruth Ellis, age 83, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Born in Warren County, NC on February 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Burrell Taylor Smiley and Ruth Elizabeth Whitemore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Dillard “Bud” Ellis, Jr.; daughter, Mary Ruth Ellis; sister, Gracie Marie Young; and brothers, Burrell Jr. and Melvin Louis. Betty was a registered nurse for over 42 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid book reader. She loved her Lord and was a faithful servant at Benvenue Baptist Church. She built a foundation that surrounded with her family based on Godly principles and love. Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Mary Johnson and husband, Paul, of Rocky Mount; and her sons, David Ellis of Colerain; and Stephen Ellis and wife, Tracey, of Nashville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Travis and Eric Ellis and wife, Justine; and Kathy Vinson. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Benvenue Baptist Church, 2464 Benvenue Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with the Dr. Michael Creekmore officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services and at other times at the home at 1104 Rosebud Drive, Rocky Mount.   1. So sorry to hear about the loss of Mrs. Betty. She was such a kind and caring lady. She was my daddy’s nurse at South Village Nursing Home and was such a great nurse who always showed her love and care to him and all of our family.   2. I was so saddened to hear of the death of my sweet fiend Betty. She was a caring and compassionate lady. She loved he church family and was a faithful servant in her Church. Until her health declined she attended faithfully. Always with a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. Even when she was not feeling the best she was always concerned about others. She will be missed. Love you Betty and I will miss your sweet spirit and sweet smile. My sincere sympathy to her family whom se loved dearly. You have now met your Savior Face to Face.
