ROCKY MOUNT - Betty Lou Eason Joyner, age 78, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, August 25, 2016. Born in Nash County on Bend of the River Road on August 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Willis Dempsey Eason and Mary Woodruff Eason. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William Fred “Sammy” Joyner, Jr.; a daughter, Tina Carol Hardison Minton; a sister, Evelyn Powell; and two brothers, “Bill” and “Timmy” Eason.
Upon graduating from Coopers High School in 1957 with Beta Club and Salutatorian honors, she was employed by J. W. Bone General Merchandise and later by Rocky Mount Undergarment. She retired from Boice-Willis Clinic in 2007 after 17 years of service. Betty was always faithful to her Lord and Savior and served faithfully for many years in the church. She enjoyed time with family and friends and relaxing at the beach.
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, William Joyner, III and his wife Terry; her daughter, Kim Hood and her husband Mike; her grandchildren, William Joyner, IV and his wife Lindsy, Candis and Sarah Joyner, Kristen Hardison and her fianc Edwin Stevens, Katelyn Hardison, and Dana Paige Hood; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey Phillips and Isis Stevens; and her son-in-law, Ed Minton. She will also be remembered by her sisters, Mildred Bryant, “Tiny” Reason and her husband Luther, Ida Reason, Margie Bass, Bonnie Hays and her husband Bobby, Brenda Proctor and her husband Earl, and Linda Berisko and her husband Regis; brothers, Wayne Eason and his wife Peggylee and Danny Eason and his wife Alicia; one Aunt, Berta E. Baswell; and surviving Joyner-in-laws.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services with Marvin Stallings officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home Cremation Services.

I worked at Boice-Willis Clinic with Betty Lou, and she was always the sweetest kindest person to work with. My love and prayers and thoughts are with all the family at this time of grief. She was such a kind and uplifting spirit & had a special way of making everyone feel more upbeat when they spoke with her!
