Betty Briley Plummer, 82, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in Rocky Mount, N.C. She passed peacefully, at home with her family by her side, as were her wishes. The sweethearts for life, Dick and Betty, are now together again, sweethearts for eternity.
Betty was born in Rocky Mount, N.C. on July 12, 1928, the only child of the late Fonnie Russell and Betsy Moss Briley. She lived all her full and very gracious life in Rocky Mount. She graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High in 1946, where this southern belle met the love of her life, a transplanted yankee named Richard Charles "Dick" Plummer. They were married November 24, 1948.
Betty worked outside the home at various times in her life as a secretary, a bookkeeper, an insurance agent, a wedding director, a real estate office supervisor for Dick Plummer and Associates and retired from Nash General Hospital after working in the Business Office and then the Speech and Hearing Dept.
Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church. Over the years she was a member and officer of numerous fraternal organization auxiliaries. Betty enjoyed people. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She was always there to offer love and support in good times and bad. She opened her heart to laugh and to weep and to celebrate life with many people. She was a gracious hostess who loved to entertain whether it was one of her delicious family dinners, an informal gathering of friends or a formal social whirl at the Carolina Cotillion Club and June German. Friends and family knew they would always receive a warm welcome at Betty's home.
In her later years she gained great enjoyment from her beautiful flowers and plants. She had that magical touch that could make anything grow and flourish. She tended her garden, her family, and her friends with a very special loving care. She will be so greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
Betty is predeceased by her mother, father, her husband of 59 years, Richard C. Plummer and many loved and cherished family members. She is survived by her daughters; Betty L. "Bunnie" Plummer and Dawn P. Andrews; son-in-law, Dennis Andrews; granddaughter, Shannon N. Plummer-White and husband Robert White; sister-in-law, Gloria P. Gurganus; her beloved extended family and kitty, Charlie Cat Plummer.
The family would like to say a special thank you with love to Marlowe and Astrid - your caring kindness will always be remembered.

Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
I am a friend of Betty’s daugher, Dawn Plummer. I have wonderful memories of being at their house when we were growing up. Betty was always so pleasant and I thought Dawn had one of the prettiest moms of all my friends. Dawn and Bunny, I have been thinking of you both this past week and am relieved for you all that Betty is no longer suffering. Beth Kincheloe
