Bessie Rae “Bett” Manning

October 22, 1924 ~ March 20, 2012

Bessie Rae Manning, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 20, 2012. She was born in Nash County on October 22, 1924 to the late Melton Mercer and Mattie Bone Mercer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Arthur Ray Manning; son, Bryan Keith Manning and two brothers, Loomis Mercer and Cecil Mercer. Mrs. Manning was an active and faithful member of Ridgecrest Worship Center, formally known as the South Rocky Mount Church of God. She was a Sunday School teacher with over 60 years ministry to children. Her heart was to serve and teach Gods little ones. Mrs. Manning only had two granddaughters but through this ministry God gave her many, many grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Bernard Ray Manning and wife, Ann of Nashville and Steve Allen Manning and wife Stacy of Elm City; daughter, Sheila M. Rose and husband Bryan of Rocky Mount; granddaughter, Megan Drew Tant; and one brother, Lester Mercer. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home in Rocky Mount with Dr. David Whitley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of her daughter. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Manning Family Cemetery in Momeyer. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N.   5. Sheila, we were so sorry and heartbroken to hear of Sis. Bett’s passing. I’m sorry Tony and I were unable to attend her service. We were out of town but our hearts and prayers were with you and the family. I’m sure her service was fitting for the precious Christian lady she was. You are all in our prayers.   10. I know the pain that death can bring to the heart, it feels almost more then we can bear. It is at a time of grief that we have to lend on our faith. Jehovah helps us with our pain throu his word in the Bible. He tells us that he will put a end to sickness, & death will be no more. (Rev. 213,4) Jesus said I am the resurrection & the life. (John 1125) It’s a wonderful feeling to know that we will be able to see our loved ones again.
