Bennie Franklin House

Bennie Franklin House, age 98, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 11, 2012. Born in Franklin County on June 09, 1914, he was the youngest of ten children of the late William James House and Emma Lancaster House. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Guill House and his nine siblings. A gentleman that would always brighten a room with his fun loving disposition and a man of character and humor that left all who he met with a smile and peppermint candy. Bennie served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European theater under the command of General George Patton and received a Bronze Star for his service. He was the owner and operator of the “Flying A” gas station which later became the first self-service Amoco station in the area. Bennie was also a saleman for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He leaves behind his daughter, Joanne Carr and husband Bob of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Joey Griffin and wife Carol of Rocky Mount, Jennifer Carr Brock and husband Tom of Rocky Mount, and Lori Ann Carr Anderson and husband Nick of Greenville; four great-grandchildren, Trey and Bennie Griffin, Margaret Ann “Maggie” Brock, and Johnny Anderson. A graveside service to remember Bennie will be held at 11:00am Friday, December 14, 2012 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:30pm Thursday evening at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N.
