This will be the link to use for this funeral: https://englewoodbaptist.com/homegoing/ ROCKY MOUNT – Barbara Jean Lane Thorpe, age 82, passed peacefully as she entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Born in Pitt County, NC on November 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lewis and Floyd Gertrude Johnson Lane. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lewis Lane, Jr. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Ann Reitz (Ernie) of Burgaw, NC and Carolyn Jean “CJ” Thorpe Daudelin (Richard) of Huntersville, NC; her son, James Alexander “Alex” Thorpe, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Greenville, NC; her grandchildren, Erica Campbell (Scott), Lauren Daudelin (Ryan Weiss), Lee Reitz (Laura) and Janice Kimbell; her great grandchildren, Bryson and Elliana Reitz; her sister, Carolyn Sue Lane Sato of Clemmons, NC; her niece, Naomi Sato Addison of Winston Salem, NC; her nephew; Mark Sato of Cary, NC; her great nephews; Maddox and Ryland Addison. Barbara was a longtime member of Englewood Baptist Church of Rocky Mount and Bogue Banks Baptist Church of Atlantic Beach, NC. Her life was filled with happiness, love and a strong spiritual devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She enjoyed spending time at the beach at her family’s cottage. Above all, her most cherished memories will be those spent with her family and precious pets. She was actively involved with her community as well as working with the Jaycees, Pilot Club, Sub Debs and Garden Club of Rocky Mount. A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Englewood Baptist Church, 1350 S. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC with Pastor Charles Taylor officiating. Visitation will follow the service until 6:00 PM. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Barbara’s memory to Kindred Hospice, 1712 W.   1. She was the sweetest lady. She always has to give you a kiss on each cheek so it wouldn’t be uneven. She loves flowers and doing things for others. Such a wonderful lady inside and out!!

  2. Mom, Thank you for all the wonderful memories and the things that you passed on to our family. You and I especially shared the love for animals, mainly our dogs and horses. We also enjoyed the farm life, even though hard at times and the beauty of the beach. We loved sharing our memories of your dad being on the farm and relaxing at the beach. You are missed physically here, but I’m looking forward to a great reunion in heaven. Love you, Beth

  4. Barbara was a bright light to many. An extension of God’s hand, if you will. She really knew Jesus and had experienced His love and forgiveness. I knew Barbara from her years at Bogue Banks Baptist Church, in Atlantic Beach. She loved the beach and this was her church away from home and we loved her so good. She was always attentive when you were speaking to her. She expressed to many of us just how much she valued her church family at the beach. We know this is a temporary separation and we will be reunited when we all get to our eternal home with Jesus! Til then let’s remember Barbara as we continue our journey here and love hard like she did because she wanted to be an extension of Jesus’ love, hope and forgiveness.   7. My Aunt was an amazing women and I am lucky for the time and memories we shared. She was bold, bright, passionate, caring and loved the Lord with all her heart. I am so thankful for the time we had together. Enjoy your heavenly wings and thanks for the feather.

  9. Aunt Barbara was always the life of the party. She was always moving and going. She just did not like sitting still. I will always remember the good times and fond memories at the beach. She was always going on her walks, instructing classes in jazzercise, aerobics, or just dancing. I will always remember her sweet smile, amazing hugs, precious heart, and her outreaching faith in the Lord. I will always remember her love of dogs especially white poodles (Baby). She was an amazing light that shined brightly and feel she will continue to shed light on us when we need it the most. I love you always and miss you dearly. May you enjoy endless ice cream treats and be forever surrounded by dogs and horses. Oh yeah and as many folded paper towels as your heart desires.

  10. Alex Thorpe, I am so sorry you lost your beloved momma. I remember so well the times I enjoyed at her home on Winstead Avenue playing pool with you and the gang. I know I have not seen you in years and I apologize we lost touch, but your friendship meant so much to me growing up in Rocky Mount. I still treasure those memories. We cut up a little, but your family were always so kind and so generous. God bless you as you remember your mom and may the memories of her love live on forever. – Chaplain Will Hoyle

  11. Barbara was a wonderful lady who I considered a close friend back in the ’80’s. We stayed in touch periodically thru the years. I found out she had passed just the other nite online. So I Google her name and found myself here. Prayers for A, and the rest of the family…Barbara was one of the finest humans beings I have ever know. RIP my friend.
