Barbara Breedlove Rackley

ROCKY MOUNT - Barbara Breedlove Rackley, age 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 6, 2020, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Nash County on May 3, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Breedlove and Bertha Wordsworth Breedlove. She was also predeceased in death by her sisters, Bertha Royal and Christine Wilder. At the age of 14, Barbara accepted Christ as her Savior through Baptism into membership of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Nashville. After graduating from Nashville High School, she was employed by Carolina Telephone for 40 years. Barbara enjoyed her retirement and loved to spend time at the cabin she and Johnny built together at Lake Gaston. She was dedicated and long-time member of the Rocky Mount Shrinettes. Barbara is survived by her husband of 60 years, John "Johnny" L. Rackley of Rocky Mount; sister, Lola Breedlove Harper and her husband, W. Tim of Red Oak; her caretaker and niece, Pam Harper Wood and her husband, Scott of Red Oak; brother-in-law, William Rackley and his wife, Shelby of Rocky Mount, sister-in-law, Elaine R. Matthews of Nashville, and five loving nieces and two nephews. A Funeral Service to celebrate Barbara's Life will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Chris Fowler officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbara's memory to the Sudan Shriners Temple Building Fund, P.O. Box 12829 New Bern, NC 28561.
