ROCKY MOUNT - Barbara Ann Cahoon Harris, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021. She was born in Nash County on November 17, 1931 to the late Bonnie McCoy Cahoon and Mattie Long Cahoon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Viola Cahoon Taylor. Barbara is survived by her brother, B M "Sparky" Cahoon, Jr. and wife, Cindy. Barbara graduated from Benvenue High School. She was a member of Johnson Tabernacle Baptist Church, now Sunset Avenue Baptist. In addition to being a doting wife and mother, Barbara worked many evenings "keeping the books" for small businesses in west Rocky Mount. When the children were older, she worked in office administration at Super Lock truck equipment for many years. She received her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1994. Miss Bobbie then began helping kids at First Baptist Church, Benvenue Day Care, and Stone Park Childcare. She continued to display her love for the little ones after retirement portraying Mrs. Santa Claus at the Golden East Crossing Mall for many years. Barbara was married to Robert M Harris of Rocky Mount. Together they had four children, Deborah Hartness and husband, Scott, of Rocky Mount, Robert Harris, Jr. and wife, Leila, of Raleigh, Kenneth Harris and wife, Julie, of Chapel Hill, and Retired RMFD Chief Keith Harris and wife, Tricia, of Rocky Mount. She had four grandchildren she loved dearly, Jason Harris and wife, Holly, of Durham, Lauren McDonald and husband, Matt, of Wake Forest, Katherine Zimmerman and husband, Tripp, of Chapel Hill, and Rachel Harris of Brooklyn, NY. She had three great-granddaughters, Cory and Leighton McDonald, both of Wake Forest, and Audrey Zimmerman of Chapel Hill, and two great-grandsons, Oliver Harris of Durham and Charlie Zimmerman of Chapel Hill. Barbara had many pets in her life, but during her golden years she absolutely adored her cats. Her sweet friend Callie was usually a fixture in her lap. She had many good times with all of her family and friends. They will draw on those memories in the days to come and take solace knowing that she is finally at home. Special thanks to Jay Farmer and LaChonda Artis and the staff of Spring Arbor of Rocky Mount Senior Living for their love and care over the past few years.
