Almarine Vick Baker

Almarine Vick Baker, 95, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 23, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Dorsey and Margaret Frances Vick; two sisters; four brothers; her husband, Hoscoe (the shoemaker) Baker; daughter, Janet P. Hayes; and sons, Norris Nathaniel and Joseph D. Baker. Left to cherish her memory is daughter, Judith Faye Joyner and husband Wiley Norman Joyner; son, Donald Ray Baker and wife Helen Wells Baker; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Baker, Melody Godwin, Timmy Baker, and Randy Joyner; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Almarine was a loving mother and grandmother from Nash County. She was a retired co-owner of Baker's Variety Store in Nashville, NC. She enjoyed working with her flowers, going to church, embroidery, and listening to gospel music. She had been a member of Westview Baptist Church since 1982. Funeral services will be held at 7:00p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. Pastor Dave Grogan and Pastor Bill Coffey will officiate the service. Visitation with the family will follow the service. Burial will be at Vick Family Cemetery on Friday morning at 10:00a.m. The family will be at the home of her daughter, 2782 Barnes Hill Church Road, Nashville, NC. The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thanks to Lillian Williford, Elizabeth Peede, the church family of Peoples Fellowship Baptist Church, Nash County Home Care, the 5th floor nursing staff at Nash General, Community Hospice, and family members for their help in caring for Almarine.
