Albert Russell Elmore went to be with his beloved wife Emily and son Albert Russell, Jr. on Thursday, May 12, 2011.His love will be greatly missed by his family: daughters Mary Ellen Elmore of Woodbridge, VA, Betsy Bradley and husband Larry of Charlotte, NC, and daughter-in-law Carole Elmore of Lexington, VA; grandchildren Amy Elmore of Fairfax, VA, Jessica Russell and husband Matt of Concord, NC, Elizabeth Wilson of Lincolnton, NC, and Jon Bradley and wife Amanda of Gastonia, NC. Russell was also "Train Papa" to four great-grandsons, Nicholas, Andrew, Jacob, and Carson, with another great-grandchild soon to become part of Jon and Amanda's family. Russell is also survived by his sister Joyce Eley and her daughter Pam Pierce of Windsor, VA, his brother Alton Elmore of Edenton, NC, and close family friends Dr. Camilla Proctor and Tom Schill and his wife Jenny, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Vernell Delbridge and his brother Milton Elmore.
Russell was born to Albert Elmore and Nora Fly Elmore of Rocky Mount in 1915 and lived the 95 years of his life in Edgecombe and Nash counties. He was employed by the Atlantic Coastline/Seaboard Coastline Railroad for thirty-eight and a half years, retiring in October 1978. After retirement he continued his love of trains by going to train shows with his close friends Gene Pridgen and Steve Armstrong.
Russell was associated for many years with the Falls of the Tar River Particular Baptist Church and was a member and past Deacon and Elder of the West Haven Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 12 noon at West Haven Presbyterian Church, Reverend Constance Button officiating, assisted by Reverend Larry W. Bradley, Elder Autry Pridgen and Reverend Dan Davis. Visitation will be at the church following the service.
Russell often showed his love of flowers by sharing them with others. Memorials may be made to West Haven Presbyterian Church, Falls of the Tar River Particular Baptist Church 1200 Crusenberry Rd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, or United Hospice.
